    Alicia (Alice) Mary Thomas Muller, of Nebo, NC, formerly of Commack, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, NC.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 28, 1930 to the late Wilford and Catherine Thomas.  Alice married her high school sweetheart, Frank Muller, Jr., on September 1, 1951 and following 39 years of marriage, he predeceased her in 1990.  She was a New York Telephone Operator and retired from AT&T in 1986, after which she and Frank moved to Nebo where she enjoyed an active lifestyle.  Her volunteer and community involvement was considerable and included volunteering at the McDowell Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Animal Outreach of McDowell County.  For many years she was a member of the New Comers in Marion and she also participated in the Senior Olympics.  An active parishioner of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Marion, she particularly enjoyed the Thursday night dinner group with her lady friends.  Last, but not least, she volunteered at the McDowell Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center for over 20 years.  Her best friend, Gertrude Feldschau, also preceded her in death in 2003.

    Alice leaves behind four children, Susan Muller of Port Jefferson Station, NY, Frank Muller III and his wife Kathy of East Islip, NY, Kathleen Muller of Raleigh, NC, and Jennifer Muller Shannon of Cary, NC; and two grandchildren, Brett Muller and Katie Muller of East Islip, NY.  Her faithful companion Fred, her cat, also survives.

    A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Marion on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at a later date in the Calverton National Cemetery in Long Island, NY.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Triangle Aphasia Project, Unlimited at 191 High House Road, Cary, NC 27511, or to your favorite animal rescue group.  Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
