Mr. Milton Potillo Lytle, age 90, of the Crooked Creek community in Old Fort passed away peacefully at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville on Monday, March 13, 2017.  A son of the late Fred and Mary Lou Davis Lytle, he was born on January 11, 1927 in Old Fort.  Milton served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and faithfully executed his duties during his time in service.  He retired from Old Fort Finishing as an inspector in the Dye House.  More enjoyable to him, however, was the time he spent raising cattle and farming and he really loved going to the stockyard.  Milton was also instrumental in helping to start the Crooked Creek Fire Department and stayed involved with it for many years.  Anyone who spent much time with Milton can attest to his skill at telling a good story and a lot of folks will miss that about him.  He attended services at Davistown Freewill Baptist Church for many, many years.  The love of his life and wife of 67 years, Ethel Cornelia Ledford Lytle, preceded him in death in February of 2016.  In addition, a son, Lloyd Lytle, and a grandson, Mark Davis, preceded him in death.

Milton leaves behind two loving daughters, Kathy Jenkins and husband John and Joan Lytle, all of Old Fort; a sister, Georgia Hampton of Black Mountain; a very special grandson and caregiver, Eric Davis; three great-grandsons, Jonathan, Kevin and Robert; and two great-great-grandchildren, Abel and Anngelica.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Davistown Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Cable and Chaplain Diane Brooks officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Burial, with military rites, will follow in the church cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his dearly loved Ethel.  Flowers are appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in his memory are encouraged to consider Hospice of McDowell County whose loving care during his illness will never be forgotten.  Their address is 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752.
