Mr. Sherman Davis, age 69, of Glenwood, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville after a hard-fought battle with leukemia. Sherman was born in Marion on February 12, 1950 to the late B. J. Davis and Dessie Robinson Davis. He was well known and respected as the owner of Davis Towing, a business that began as Davis Automotive in 1969. Fair dealing, hard work and generosity grew his business over the years and Sherman earned much admiration not only from his clients but in the towing community. He was a proud member of the National Towing Association. His involvement in Glenwood and McDowell County were well known through his volunteer service in Glenwood Ruritan and the Marion Moose Family Center. Sherman also served selflessly in hurricane relief efforts whenever he could. He thoroughly enjoyed participating with the Five Lane Cruisers and was a former member of the Bassmasters. His compassionate, giving nature was legendary to his family and to all those who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
Sherman leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Louise Maney Davis; four children, Craig Davis (Donna) of Old Fort, Frank Maney of Glenwood, Matt Maney (Sandy) of Marion, and Kristie Taylor of Old Fort; his favorite child, and faithful canine companion, L. B.; two sisters, Sharon Davis Young (Dean) of Marion and Robin Davis Robbins (Danny) of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Abbie Davis, Harrison Davis, Zoie Maney, and Matthew Maney.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. T. J. Addison and Rev. Steve Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Harrison Davis, Gabriel Peek, Rodney Padgett, Troy McCormick, Dougie McCormick, and Alan Arrowood and also Robert Carlisle and Tim Matthews acting as an honorary pallbearers.
