Curtis Leroy Wheeler, age 83, of Marion, NC went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Wheeler was born August 8, 1936 in Rochester, MN to the late Aldron D. Wheeler and Florence Greenwalt Wheeler. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. After his discharge from the military he attended Rochester Junior College and worked for KROC television station as a cameraman. He met and married Janice Marie Johnson, August 5, 1961 and they resided in Rochester, MN. They had five children. He was very devoted to his wife and family. He always enjoyed fixing and tinkering with things. He was amazing with building things. He started at IBM as a draftsman and retired as a Senior Designer in 1992 after 32 years. After his retirement he went to work for Richard Hamaker in Durham, NC building specialty furniture. Mr. Wheeler and his wife moved to Marion, NC in 1999. He became an active member of St. Mathew’s Lutheran Church. He loved his church and was always faithful and willing to serve in any way. He went work for Carolina Stone Crops Nursery in Dysartsville, NC where he was employed until 2019, when his health began to fail. Mr. Wheeler loved people and was a very kind and caring person. He will forever be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn.
Those left behind to cherish Mr. Wheeler’s memory are his beloved wife of 59 years, Janice Marie Johnson Wheeler of the home; five children, Jill Ellen Wheeler of West Jefferson, NC, Curt Aldron Wheeler (Laura) of Tucson, AZ, Carl Andrew Wheeler of Hayfield, MN, Cory Allan Wheeler (Robin) of Weaverville, NC and Jane Emily Truesdale of Durham, NC; twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Krista, Michael, Elizabeth, Courtney, Taylor, Aric, Andrew, Alexander, Nicholas and Benjamin; nine great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Royce, Kaileigh, Samara, Allison, Maddox, Evelyn, Estella and Gavarius; one sister, Pat Rupkalvis of Burlington, NC; three nephews, Mark, Jeff, and Greg Rupkalvis; and lifelong friends, Irene and Jim Ness of Kasson, MN.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Wheeler’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church. Lunch will follow the service in the church Hut.
